Fencing is a fast and athletic sport, very much different from the films you see at the cinema or on television. The sword is one of the oldest of weapons and, as Egyptian frescoes circa 1200BC show, fencing is one of the oldest of sports. Fencing is also one of the four sports which has been featured at every modern Olympic Games (and epee fencing is one of the five disciplines of the modern pentathlon).

Currently, three types of weapon are used in fencing: Sabre, Foil and Epee. Fencing will not only exercise your body but also your mind and has sometimes been likened as a mixture of boxing and playing chess at speed.

As a beginner you will learn the techniques of attacking, defending, footwork, bluff and counter-bluff.

Our beginners classes are held on Monday evenings from 19:30 to 21:30 and all safety equipment is provided.

Cost of the course is £50 for an eight week course.

Our beginners classes are very popular and always over subscribed so booking early is recommended to avoid disappointment.
