Welcome to Plymouth Fencing Club

As one of the oldest and possibly the most successful fencing clubs in the South West, Plymouth Fencing Club continues to attract the beginner, novice, social and competitive fencer (even Olympians) at all levels and abilities. The club offers a warm welcome to all, and whatever standard you are you can be certain of a good nights fencing.

Our coaches, Andy Hill (BAF) and Peter Barrett (BAF) have total of over 75 years of fencing and coaching experience between them. As competitive fencers they themselves reached the finals of numerous open events and represented Great Britain at international competitions and Professional World Championships. Together Andy and Peter have produced some of Great Britain's most successful fencers.

Competitive Success

The competitive success of the club is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of not only its fencers but also its coaches.

In the last 20 years fencers from the club have won 50 championships including every British Epee male & female championships. From the young beginnings within the Leon Paul Junior Series, the British Youth Championships (BYC), the English Youth Championships (EYC) and senior levels.

Previous & existing members that have won British championships include: Tristan Lane, Chris Greenside, David Stewart Watson, Anneka Lawrence, Rhiannon Lawrence, Corinna Lawrence, Hannah Bryars, Naomi Porter, Emily Hepburn, Nicola Cain, Vicky Howe, Tanya Jacome. Other notable fencers of our club include: Marc Burkhalter (Commonwealth medallist), Kate Allenby (Olympic bronze medal Sydney 2000), Zoe Prescott (England U-16 Team), Jeannie Collins (England U-16 Team), Rob Hill (runner-up BYC U-14 foil), Ben Bennett (numerous top 8 BYC finals), Andy Ducan (New Zealand Commonwealth Team). Recently, Toni Denham has represented England at U-16 and won a silver medal at the Great Britain U-17 Championships. James Harris was third in two senior nationals & second in the Great Britain U-20 Championships. Georgina Barrington was fifth in the GB U-17 cadets. Tim Andrews finished top in the 2008/2009 U-11 age group Leon Paul Junior Series. Sarah Palmer became the GB youth 'A' girls pentathlon champion. David Stewart Watson took gold at the U-17 GB Nationals and of course Heather Fell won silver in the modern pentathlon at the Beijing Olympics.
